Travel Photo of the Day: Golden Gate Sails

A beautiful day in the San Francisco Bay. Sometimes there are 3 times this many sailboats out!

Our travel club’s home base in San Francisco ain’t too shabby. The sweeping views of the bay and Golden Gate Bridge from the Marin Headlands can be astounding in so many ways. On this day it was perfectly clear but there are many a days where a thick blanket of fog (known as the marine layer) covers the entire bridge and city of San Francisco! Sometimes the fog is so low it covers everything accept the top half of the bridge (this makes for a sweet photograph as well!). For some of our local members we do awesome hikes up and around the Marin Headlands where this shot was taken…

  1. Beautiful photo of the Golden Gate and the Bay! Where’s the fog? 🙂

  2. Not a bad place for a view 🙂

  3. Awesome shot…just returned from San Francisco and fell in love with the city. Sadly, the bridge was fogged in almost the entire 4 days…

    • Thanks! Haha yeah as beautiful as SF is the fog can be a real buzz kill. Sometimes if the fog is low enough you can go to the same spot we took this shot and get amazing pictures with the top of the bridge poking through the clouds.

    What a classic. Gorgeous!

Excellent shot! Although I’ve never been to the place I intend to one day visit the bridge. I often think of Clint Eastwood and Escape From Alcatraz when I see the bridge. It’s got quite a morbid reputation but it’s certainly a beautiful setting.

    • Yeah great movie! The beauty and amazing landscapes surrounding the bridge and SF far outweigh the morbid reputation though…
